Structure of English

This module introduces students to a broad range of source materials on language structure at the phonological, lexical, grammatical and pragmatic level. The main focus lies on the process of synthesising information from various sources into a coherent understanding of these structures. In addition students relate structures at the theoretical level to practical application in the classroom.

Writing for Young People

This module addresses aims and issues related to young people’s literature: socio-cultural, historical, linguistic, methodological and educational. Students are actively involved in this ‘curriculum as conversation’.

TESOL 2
taught by Priscilla Newberry
This teacher-training module addresses aspects of learning and teaching grammar and written language. It is closely linked with and applies theories relating to Writing for Young People and the Language Wizard. During the 10-week, 50-hour placement students increase their planning, teaching and evaluating skills. 30 hours is spent on teaching on one whole day per week.

Independent Study
taught by Priscilla Newberry & Liz Dale
This module provides the student with the opportunity to carry out either independent reading research or a survey or a classroom-based experiment in the field of second language education, under supervision of a tutor. Students are entitled to 5 sessions of tutorials for this module.
