Useful Info for Int'l Students
So-Fi number
If you want to work legally in Holland you need a so-fi number (national insurance number). You can get this from the tax office situated at Kingsfordweg 1 (near to Sloterdijk train station). To get the number you will need to present
- Prooof of enrolment at EFA
- Proof of address (eg your rent contract)
- Passport
- Police stamp (to show you’ve registered)
Registering at the Foreigners’ Police (vreemdelingenpolitie)
As a foreigner in Holland you are supposed to register with the foreigners’ police. This is essential if you want to work legally (see above) and if you come from outside the EU. If you live at Uilenstede you can register in Amstelveen. The address is: Zetterij 6 and you can reach it by going to the last stop of sneltram 51 (Poortwachter). The police office is open from 8.30 – 13.00 but the earlier you get there the better. You will need to take your passport and proof of enrolment (student card) with you.
Bank account
You are advised to open a Dutch bank account. We have made a special arrangements with the ABN bank on the Vijzelstraat.
